These days, it's inevitable that your kids will be spending a lot of their time on computers. It is easier than you might think to make your own website. The first question you need to answer, is what do I want to feature on my website? Of course that will depend on the age group you will be targeting. You can make a site virtually about anything that interests you or your family. Building your website with your child is one way to ensure that it will be of interest to kids. Once you have decided what features your website should have, here are a few things you may want to check into.
Do you want to make a web site about one topic or several topics? Will this be a private page just for friends and family or one that any child can access? Just make sure that you try to stick to one topic per page. Try not to overload your web pages with too much animation or flashing objects. Consider making a theme web page. Perhaps you love pets or animals. Maybe your family is into sports big time. An interactive page with puzzles, games or reviews about books or movies can be a lot of fun for kids. In searching the web, one can find many free tools to use for your site. They include but are not limited to, computer jigsaw puzzles, quizzes, posters, and clipart images that you may want to use on your site. Origami would also be an interesting item to feature on your site. Sudoku and crossword puzzles are another fun idea and still hugely popular among kids and adults alike.
Start thinking about what features you want to include when you build your own website. An educational website is one way to go because then you can make learning fun. Think about sites that include math or biology or even sites about dinosaurs or astronomy. You could include historical facts or talk about geography by exploring different parts of the world. Don't forget to think about safety. If your website is a personal one just for your kids, make sure the site is password-protected so that only invited people can access the site. You want to be absolutely sure that there is no personal information on it.
Other important things to consider will be the name of your site. You will need to choose what is called a domain name - the name typed into the address bar in order to visit a site. You can purchase a domain name on sites like GoDaddy or Namecheap. On average, they are usually under $10 to purchase. That will be a yearly fee in order to keep the name. Before you purchase a domain name, check for coupons first by putting something like "GoDaddy coupons" into Google. I always use a coupon when purchasing a domain name. Secondly, you will need to host your site somewhere. That is how websites get on the world wide web. Hosting is usually purchased at a cost of around $10 a month. However, I get my hosting free and you may want to look into that option by downloading my ebook below.
