Google Chrome

What Google is calling 'a fresh take on the browser'

Google spent a lot of time building an Explorer killing web browser which they have called Chrome. Google Chrome allows users to browse, search, chat, email and collaborate so much more in a browser that is faster than any of the others that I use. I use Firefox for the plugins, Opera when I want to browse because it does not have the plugins and so it is faster, Flock, Safari and Explorer as test browsers for the sites that I work on (all browsers have to work!)

I was expecting Google to buy into Firefox, but that is probably too open source for them. To compete against MS the product has to remain more under their control. Google is a fan of gadgets, so I expect that there will be quite a few gadgets in the near future. Google did use components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, and this ends up being open source, but a Google open source as opposed to a Mozilla open source. It is important to see the difference, since Google can change the core of their application and not worry about everyone from Mozilla having to buy in. Smart move, I say.

New Features

When you open a new tab in Chrome you have some interesting options. You have the 9 most visited sites in the main part of the window, on the right there is a search bar, a list of your recent bookmarks and a list of recently closed tabs. Pretty much the things that you would need or want to access.

There is also a small link on the bottom left that shows your full history, so you really do have access to anything that you have been recently working on. The site history does not open in a small sidebar, it opens in the full page. There is also a search function for your history. This is a great improvement on the other browsers.

There is also a full list of Chrome features, each with a 30 second video, on the Google Chrome site.

Since we spend so much time online, we began seriously thinking about what kind of browser could exist if you started from scratch and built on the best elements out there. We realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser. What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications, and that's what Google set out to build.

In theory, each tab works as a stand alone browser. If one tab crashes the others do not crash. At least this is what they say, I have not had a crash yet to let you know it it works.

Google claims that there is "improved speed and responsiveness across the board". I find this an understatement. This is the fasted browser on the internet today. They also say that they built V8, a more powerful JavaScript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers. This seems true to me, and only time will tell.

One Thing I Don't Like

There is always something. I like to click download and ignore the files. In Chrome the download appears at the bottom of your browser window and you can later execute it, drag it to your desktop or save it to a folder. I know this sounds smarter than what I am doing now, but old habits die hard.

This is just the beginning - Google Chrome is far from done. There is a beta for Windows and they are building versions for Mac and Linux.

Google only gets better, with every tool they have come out with. Firefox, Opera and IE can stand to have a new and powerful browser to compete against. Maybe FF will crash less and IE will finally be made into something other than a memory hog. I still use FF, but I think that Opera will only sit next to Safari for testing. (IE is not yet in the garbage because it does come installed on so many PC's).

Google Chrome is a great option for fast browsing if you can live without all those add-ons that you have gotten used to. Recently I was only using Opera and would open FF just to use an add-on. this may sound silly, but I work much faster like this. As I said, Opera is on its way to retirement for me.

The best test of Google Chrome is to try it yourself.

Make Your Own Website For Kids

These days, it's inevitable that your kids will be spending a lot of their time on computers. It is easier than you might think to make your own website. The first question you need to answer, is what do I want to feature on my website? Of course that will depend on the age group you will be targeting. You can make a site virtually about anything that interests you or your family. Building your website with your child is one way to ensure that it will be of interest to kids. Once you have decided what features your website should have, here are a few things you may want to check into.

Do you want to make a web site about one topic or several topics? Will this be a private page just for friends and family or one that any child can access? Just make sure that you try to stick to one topic per page. Try not to overload your web pages with too much animation or flashing objects. Consider making a theme web page. Perhaps you love pets or animals. Maybe your family is into sports big time. An interactive page with puzzles, games or reviews about books or movies can be a lot of fun for kids. In searching the web, one can find many free tools to use for your site. They include but are not limited to, computer jigsaw puzzles, quizzes, posters, and clipart images that you may want to use on your site. Origami would also be an interesting item to feature on your site. Sudoku and crossword puzzles are another fun idea and still hugely popular among kids and adults alike.

Start thinking about what features you want to include when you build your own website. An educational website is one way to go because then you can make learning fun. Think about sites that include math or biology or even sites about dinosaurs or astronomy. You could include historical facts or talk about geography by exploring different parts of the world. Don't forget to think about safety. If your website is a personal one just for your kids, make sure the site is password-protected so that only invited people can access the site. You want to be absolutely sure that there is no personal information on it.

Other important things to consider will be the name of your site. You will need to choose what is called a domain name - the name typed into the address bar in order to visit a site. You can purchase a domain name on sites like GoDaddy or Namecheap. On average, they are usually under $10 to purchase. That will be a yearly fee in order to keep the name. Before you purchase a domain name, check for coupons first by putting something like "GoDaddy coupons" into Google. I always use a coupon when purchasing a domain name. Secondly, you will need to host your site somewhere. That is how websites get on the world wide web. Hosting is usually purchased at a cost of around $10 a month. However, I get my hosting free and you may want to look into that option by downloading my ebook below.

Money From Google - No Investment Required!

Working towards earning money from Google, is relatively easy to accomplish with absolutely no investment on your part. You can achieve this by using other people's products to promote and get a commission for the sale. No stocking of your own products or shipping them out to the customer and you do not even need to worry about customer service. This is what is called Affiliate Marketing.

There are hundreds of programs and affiliate networks you can join to make money. You can promote anything from tangible products. Like children's toys and household goods to simple e-books which pay up to 75% affiliate commission. Let us say the product costs $75 you stand to earn 75% from that sale, so your earnings would be $56 less the cents.

You do not need a website, this is earning money from Google with absolutely no investment on your part except a little of your time.

There are many social web sites that are free to use, soon as you sign-up, you can be promoting whatever you like in no time al all. You can use sites like Wordress blogs; Blogger.com Google's own bogging platform, Hubpages.com, Squidoo.com, Zimbio, Tripod, etc.

All the above web sites look and feel grate, and they are easy to use. You just need to name your pages with the product you are promoting. Like Squidoo.com/the-name-of-the-product
You then provide links to the product (s) sales page that you are promoting you are allowed to do that, and once someone clicks on the link and buys the product, you get paid. In addition, it costs you absolutely no investment what so ever, just a little of your time to get money from Google.

Google loves theses types of free web sites like I mentioned above, and spiders them on the hour every hour looking for fresh content, so your new site page will be indexed in less then 24 hours of finishing your new creation.

Now let us look at how we get your page on to Googles front page and keep it there.
When you first get indexed in Google you may find your page on the second page of the search results, this is ok, but you need to be on the first page for your keyword and page title: So how do you move it up in the rankings. Well you need to start bookmaking your site page. This tells Google that your page is important and should be moved up in the search results. You can achieve this by building new pages and sites using the free social sites I mentioned earlier in the article.

Therefore, this is how you move your page up to first page on Google and get money from Google.

1. Build more free sites, but this time instead of linking to the products sales page, you link to the first page you built. Therefore, if your first page was www.squidoo.com/battery-operated-lawn-trimmer
you would link like this to your first site page and not the product sales page.

2. Bookmark the first page you built and all the others linking back to your first site page.
You can use social bookmaking site like:

Bibsonomy
Lgooi
Mister-wong
Buddymarks
Ask/Jeeves
Bookmark Tracker
Diigo
SioteSays
BackFlip
Linkaggo
Spurl
Jumptags
MyLinlVault
A1-Webmarks
Searchles
Digg
Del.icio
Propeller etc. There are lots more.

Write articles to the top article sites, like EzineArticles, Goarticles, Jabberdi, and Article Dashboard.
Doing this will not only help to get traffic to you site page, it will also give you back-links to your site page also.

Air Travel Tips For Flying With Children

Are you taking a trip by plane with your children in the near future? If so, here are seven tips.

1) Think of everything your children might wear including shoe wear in the weather conditions you will encounter on your vacation. Make a check list of all things you should bring. Things you might need to bring: Goggles, sunscreen (Sunscreen should be brought for the sunny AND snowy destinations. Last time I flew you could only have tiny travel size bottles. Put these bottles in plastic zip up baggies in case the contents explode due to air pressure. Also, all beverages and packages with liquidy foods, yogurt, melted cheese, had to be thrown away at the security point.) Other things to bring: hair brush, toothbrush carrying cases, tooth brushes, toothpaste, folding stroller, folding crib, your child's special snuggly, special medicated skin creams, etc. You should call your local airport to find out rules for carrying liquids and creams. If you're traveling to another country find out the rules for bringing in prescription drugs to their country. Medicine might need to be in its original container. Or you might have to show officials the prescription box. Find out. You don't want your child's medicine taken away.

2) Pack early. Don't be a last minute packer. When shopping at the grocery store you might suddenly remember something you forgot to pack and need. Buy now rather at the airport where it could be much more expensive.

3) To keep your children occupied at the terminal and on the plane: Have a variety of activities for them. Each child should have their own backpack with their own activities. This is to prevent squabbling. Think ahead. Just how many hours will it will take to get to your destination? Lay-overs are hard on most children so try to avoid them. Ask each child what they would like to put in their backpack. If they like to draw, put paper, coloring books and crayons in their bag. Items you might want to pack: Exciting new book(s) and magazine(s), new book(s) on tape with tape recorder for terminal use if other passengers don't mind (if old enough, headsets), Ipod, Mad Libs, dot-dot books, cross word puzzles, mini-games, mini-puzzles, hand held electronic games, little toys, and small stuffed animals.

4) For late departures and lay-overs: For kids who have trouble sitting still, walk with them through the terminal. Bring books to read to them, or have audio cassettes with small tape recorder and earphones available. If you plan on bringing your lap top, bring a couple of movies your children have never seen. Once at a terminal I saw four children quietly seated in front of a laptop watching a movie. I'm not sure how well they could hear the movie. But I think with animation such as cartoons the action might make up for words so these type of shows might be worth a try.

5) On the plane: Buy special treats before getting on the plane or buy treats a week before trip starts. You can let your child pick them out or surprise them. Explain to them the trip will take X amount of hours and that every half hour they will get a jelly bean/healthy treat. This will break up the trip in half hour installments. The time might seem to go faster because they will have something to look forward to.

6) With young children you should get aisle seats for easy access. You don't want to bother other passengers by frequently having to climb over them to walk the aisle with your child. By walking the aisle, if you're allowed, your child will get energy out. Remember to rotate activities while on the plane so your child doesn't get bored. With babies and toddlers some parents like to take night flights hoping their child will sleep. You can try this. If you do, you can put them in their PJ's before you board the plane. Then when you get to your hotel you won't have to wake them up to put them in their PJ's.

7) If your child's ears hurt when the plane is ascending and descending get them to swallow several times. Older kids can chew gum. I've heard sipping on water or sucking on a bottle helps. Talk to your doctor about ways to help. You really shouldn't fly if your child has a cold because of ear problems which could occur. If you do, see your doctor before hand. He/she can prescribe medicine if they think it's necessary. Lastly, for hydration purposes if your child is awake during the flight they should drink water.

Purchasing Kid's Discount Perfume Online

Kids discount perfume has become a large part of the perfume industry with corporations such as Disney, Marvel Comics, Nickelodeon and Warner Brothers putting all there kid programming behind these discount fragrances.

When it comes to kids and perfume, adult fragrances are just too strong to be used on a consistent basis. It is one thing to try and imitate mommy by spraying a couple of sprits of perfume... it's another thing to use it when they're going to school. Fortunately, thanks to the Internet, parents can have access to a wealth of kid's perfume online.

Now, the process of buying kid's discount perfume online is pretty much the same as buying adult perfume online. You can use Google to find kid's discount perfume online, or you can visit online outlets specializing in kid's apparel. There may even be kid's perfume at online toy stores, though these might not be intended for everyday use.

In terms of the smell, kid's discount perfumes tend to be more flowery or fruity than adult fragrances. There are even 'silly' smells, like maybe peanut butter or something similar. These are the types of fragrances you might get at an online toy store, where the perfume is intended for playtime activity. For more formal perfumes, you want to stick with regular online enterprises, unless the perfume at the toy store indicates it has a more 'normal' aroma.

After buying kid's perfume online, you will want to make sure you monitor how your child uses it. Now, this may not be necessary for older kids, but for very young kids, there is the possibility of them doing something stupid, such as putting on too much perfume or even eating it. So, to prevent any problems, make sure they understand they only use the perfume under mom or dad's supervision.

Also be aware that even with kid's perfume, your child might develop allergies to the scent. You can lessen this problem if you read the ingredients on the perfume label, (which are available even if you buy the perfume online). If you see something that they're allergic to, you will definitely want to consider another brand.

Now kids want to smell good and want their favorite show or character on their bathroom counter, the kids discount fragrances business is growing more popular by the day.

Shark Tales Birthday Party For Kids who Love Shark Tales The Movie, Then This Is Perfect!

When determining a theme for your child's special day, you should consider a Shark Tales Birthday Party! Shark tales party gear is easy to find and sure to please. Most of the items you need will be easy to locate if you want to purchase them and easy to make if you are feeling crafty.
Invitations are easy to make, if you want to make them yourself! Just copy pictures of sharks onto the front of the invitations, which can be made by folding construction paper in half. Print the words, "Swim with the Sharks!" on the outside, a photo of the birthday child wearing shark goggles and fins on the inside, along with all the relevant party information.

To decorate the party area, you can create a balloon banner spanning the doorways, paste up tropical fish pictures, and play the Shark Tales theme song in the background. The best colors to use in the decorations are blue, yellow, and lime green.

For a perfect Shark Tales tablescape, cover the table with a Shark Tales table cloth and use clam shells and new sand pails and shovels as serving dishes. These can be placed in piles of brown sugar to mimic sand, and tie appropriately colored balloons to the chair backs.

Have Shark Tales coloring pages ready for an easy arrival activity, so the guests will be occupied while everyone arrives. When everyone is present, let each child decorate a T-shirt. A great idea is to have tissue between the front and back to prevent paint bleed, and when the guests are ready, wet sponges with multiple colors of paint and allow guests to dip shells into the paint and press onto their T as decoration.

Bake a fishy cake by using to standard round pans and a cake mix or recipe you like. Cover cardboard with foil and use as a platter. Put one cake round on the platter and cut the remaining layer into fishy fins and a tale, and fit them against the body. Frost blue, and make fins, a mouth, and eyes with decorating gel. The tray can even be frosted with a lighter blue or green frosting to make it appear the shark is in water.
You can cut peanut butter and jelly sandwiches into fish shapes, and serve them to the hungry seafarers for an easy party menu.
