Classic Rock and Roll Groups From the 1960's and 1970's

What we now refer to as classic rock from the 1960's and 1970's was very influential back in the day. Many of the songs have been able to stand the test of time, even with new genres of music taking over. There are musicians from these periods of time that have become larger than life. Even though their music is decades old they are still recognized for their contributions to the world of music.

Without a doubt one of the biggest bands of the 1960's was the invasion of the Beatles. They brought a craze to the world of rock and roll that hadn't quite been embraced yet. With all of the television productions at that time too they were all over the news and on dance shows. It seemed as if everyone had what was referred to as Beatle Mania going strong.

The Beatles came from Britain, and their style of music had a significant impact on the future of rock music in the United States. Such bands as the Rolling Stones were able to capitalize on the success of the Beatles and make a name for themselves as well. Rock stars became a legend in their own right during the 1960's with flocks of fans following their every move.

Keith Emerson brought plenty of great music to the world in the 1970's. He also added something that left the crowds awestruck - the use of pyrotechnics in his live shows. He also helped to pave the way for what became known as progressive rock in the 1970's. These were bands that heavily relied upon the keyboard sounds in their music.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's the use of electronics were heavily introduced to the world of rock music. Bands including Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple use them successfully to develop a very unique sound that has immediately a hit. They incorporated synthesizers, foot pedals for drum sets, and even echoes in the background of their lyrics.

Some of the classic rock bands in the 1970's are still out there today. Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Kiss are just a few of them. They brought to the stage their elaborate costumes, big hard, platform shoes for men, and of course make up. It was definitely a new style for the world of rock music. In fact, it was to lay the foundation for what would be referred to as the Hair Bands of the 1980's.

If you still love the classic rock music from the 1960's and 1970's there are quite a few radio stations that play it. Some of them will be local channels while others are on satellite radio. There are also CD compilations of the top artists from these two decades. Take a stroll down memory lane while listening to many of those timeless tunes any time you feel like it.

Are Hydrogen Conversion Kits a Scam?

If you're like us, you've been getting more and more concerned and frustrated with the high price of gasoline at the pump. You've thought about buying a hybrid, but most drivers don't experience enough savings in gas to make the car worth it at all.

Unfortunately, Hybrid cars are some of the Worst Polluters!

How's that you ask? Ever read the label on a rechargeable battery? You can't throw them out. They're toxic and contain heavy metals that can pollute ground water. The battery in a hybrid car is also a rechargeable battery and they can weigh as much as 600 pounds. Think of what would happen if a hybrid car got into an accident right beside a city's water supply. They would totally destroy it. Not to mention what do you do with that battery down the road. Think of 20 years from now, all the hybrid cars sitting in junk yards with their batteries leaking heavy metals into the soil!

A lot of proponents will tell you that the batteries will be recycled for new cars, but right now all Hybrids are using Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries, but in just a few years those will be obsolete as we move on to Lithium-Ion batteries. No, Hybrids are a fad, and unfortunately they are one that are just as likely to do more damage than good to our planet!

So what now? What other things are there that we can burn in our cars?

Because let's face it, our entire economy is now reliant on cheap, fast transportation. If there is a solution out there that can allow us to keep our cars and not destroy the world we live in, we need to explore it fully.

For years now there has been talk of burning hydrogen. It releases nothing more than steam into the air. The downside is that hydrogen is dangerous. Extremely dangerous. Driving cars that carry tanks of hydrogen would be concerning to say the least. There is a lot of money being poured into ways to make impenetrable tanks to transport hydrogen, when there is a much easier solution, a solution that you can create yourself.

If this is so easy to do, why aren't the car companies offering it?

Think back a hundred years when cars as we know them were first being created. Was it the big manufacturing companies of the day? Were the train companies branching out into cars? No, it was small inventors and machinists who took the important steps and created most of the major auto companies that are still around today. The Wright brothers were bicycle shop owners and they were mocked endlessly for their attempts to fly.

The reason why the big companies of the day didn't do it then is the same reason why the big companies of the day aren't doing it now. Money. They've invested a ton of money into creating the current technologies and building all the infrastructure to support them. Their shareholders wouldn't take too kindly if they turned all of that on its ear.

It's up to us to take the necessary steps to save our world.

There is a simple solution. A Wright Brothers, or Dodge Brothers, or Mr Diesel type of solution: Water contains fuel. Think about it, water contains Hydrogen and Oxygen. 'Burning' is a chemical reaction of a fuel and oxygen, and if you can split the Hydrogen from the Oxygen in water, you have everything you need to create combustion and run your car's engine. We'll save you too much of the technical jargon, but there are several ways to create this separation. It isn't a direct split, but rather an alteration of the water into a gas that can burn. One of the gasses is called 'Brown Gas' and another is called 'HHO'. For the average person's needs they are effectively the same, but feel free to Google them if you want to know more.

Burning HHO or Brown Gas is even better for the environment than just burning Hydrogen!

Think about what I mentioned above. Nearly everything that burns, burns because of a reaction with oxygen. The output of burning Hydrogen is that you combine oxygen and hydrogen and make water. While this certainly isn't bad, it doesn't help areas of the world that are already low on oxygen.

The natural mix of our 'Air' contains 15% oxygen. Humans start to die when it dips below 5%. Some places like Tokyo, Japan are already as low as 6-7% at times. That is dangerously low. By starting with water and creating Brown Gas or HHO, one of the things that will come out of your tailpipe is oxygen. That's right, plain, simple O.

So can we help the environment and save money on gas?

That's the question I asked when I first really started looking into this technology. I found a lot of wild and outlandish claims. Claims that stated that you could use 0% gas and 100% water. I did a lot of research and found that yes, that is true, but you'll have to fill your entire trunk with water jugs to get enough HHO, or Brown Gas to run your car.

So I started looking at the hydrogen kits that enhance your car, but don't claim to pull it off of gas permanently. These seemed more reasonable and feasible. I have a fairly good understanding of how cars work and what emissions are. One of the things that a lot of people know about is a little thing in their car called the catalytic convertor. This device sits in your exhaust pipe and simply put, gets really, really hot. It does this because your car's engine doesn't really burn all the gas, and a lot of it is expelled in a toxic, half burnt stew. The catalytic convertor gets hot and finishes the burn on this gasý mostly.

Adding hydrogen to the air-fuel mixture in a car's engine will allow the engine to burn the gas more completely because the hydrogen is simply more flammable. This makes your engine vastly increase its efficiency and have a more complete burn. This is good for you, and for the environment!

Can our car do this?

Yes, nearly any gas burning car can do this! (Diesel owners can run their diesel engines on fuel made from vegetable oil, so they have alternatives too!). You can buy expensive kits to do this, or you can buy manuals that show you components you can pick up at any home improvement store and convert your car yourself!

Think about it, an ebook and materials that cost you under $200 that can save you as much as $10 each time you fill up! I don't know about you, but that's not even two months for me to make that up. And with vacation time around the corner I can recover an expense like that in a few weeks.

We've purchased a few of these kits and installed them, and have also spent extensive time on the Internet reviewing them, finding people who have installed them and seeing which work, and which don't.

Middle School Science Fair Projects Made Fun and Easy

Middle school science fair projects are a transition phase for students, neither too elementary nor too high school level. However, just because it is your transition stage does not mean that you have to be ambivalent about your middle school science experiments, far from it. Instead, you should show off your accumulated knowledge and passionate interest in science by adopting any of the following projects. Just remember that before you choose one, you should have assessed in which field of science you are most interested in. This way, you will be more motivated to do your research, conceptualize your project and then accomplish your vision.

Renewable Energy

One of the hottest topics for middle school science fair projects today is renewable energy in the form of solar power and wind turbines. You can tap into this interest by constructing a model of how solar panels and/or wind turbines work to provide energy and electricity to home and industries. This is probably one of the easiest and yet most eye-catching middle school science fair projects for many reasons. For one thing, you can purchase ready-made, easy-to-assemble and easy-on-the-pocket kits for solar energy and wind power science projects. For another thing, you can make it as eye-catching as possible with the addition of houses and buildings complete with lights.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car

You may also purchase a ready-made kit for the hydrogen fuel cell car, which provides for 30 distinct experiments. You will be able to demonstrate the workings and benefits of the energy-efficient car, which is one of the more notable inventions technologies of the century. Among the experiments contained in the kit are the uses of solar power for vehicle power, the utilization of fuel cell to separate the oxygen and hydrogen atoms in water, and demonstration of electrolysis. Well, of course, you can always make your own experiments just so your middle school science fair projects stand out from the rest of the competition.

Magnetic Levitation Train

Now this is one science fair project that is absolutely possible! You will, of course, need to do your research about the principle behind the magnetic levitation train, purchase the necessary materials like ceramic magnets for the lifter-rails, wood for the guide rails and model cars, and then execute your drawings and plans. You can then perform experiments with the completed Maglev train set such as using gravity to push the car forward and using the car itself to move something along its path. You can be very creative, maybe even perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of your experiments.

Resurrecting the Dead

Fishes, that is. You are basically recreating the technology of cryonics where dead fishes are placed in a state of suspended animation, which is used in Japan to preserve the freshness of the day's catch. As part of your middle school science fair projects, you can follow the example of two brothers who supposedly resurrected a dead goldfish by using Mountain Dew, water and a 9-volt battery. Of course, you have to do it on a trial and error basis but that's where the fun of discovery lies. However, conduct your research before you go about killing all the goldfishes in your home's aquarium.

With these ideas for middle school science fair projects, you will definitely get the attention of the judges and do yourself, your parents and your teachers proud.

4th Grade Science Experiments

Do you dread the day when your child comes home from school and yells: "We have to do a science project!" Where do you start? What is even in a science project? Don't worry, I will walk you through and help you complete one of many 4th grade science experiments.

You first need the materials. Here is a list:

-pH paper
-lemon juice
-two see through glass containers
-magnifying glass
-tape
-pencil
-paper
-hanger
-glass or plastic vial
-nylon stocking or one leg of pantyhose (Don't get alarmed! It's for the experiment!)

Procedure (instructions for 4th grade science experiments):

1. First cut up the coat hanger into one long metal wire. Be careful. Then take the wire and make a circle with an 8 inch diameter.

2. Take the stocking or pantyhose leg and stretch the opening top around the 8 inch wire. Staple it in place.

3. Cut off the end of the stocking or pantyhose (where the toes are). Then take the vial and put it into the new hole that you just made. Make sure the vial opening is in the stocking/pantyhose. Use tape to secure the vial in this position.

4. Now it's time to go outside! Take your new "net" and go to a pond, stream, lake, beach or ocean. Holding the wire part of the "net," drag the net in the water. You are now collecting plankton, tiny microscopic organisms that you will use in your experiment!

5. As you drag the net in the water, plankton should be collecting in the vial. Pour the water in the vial into one of your two glass containers. Use a magnifying glass to look for plankton. Collect more plankton. Make sure you have enough plankton for your two containers. You want to have equal amounts of plankton in each container.

6. Everyday, add a tablespoon of lemon juice to ONE of your containers. At the end of the day, test the pH of each container using your pH paper.

7. Record these pH readings everyday. Also note how much plankton are in each of the containers everyday. Take pictures. Write down your observations.

8. After a week, your experiment is finished! What happened? Compare the plankton and pH readings of both containers.

The Different Types of Ducks

If you love outdoor animals and have been looking into the different types of ducks, we've put together a little list for you. While you may already know about some of them, there are others out there that the majority of society are still oblivious to today. So sit back and relax. By the time you're done reading this, you'll definitely feel smarter in regards to the different types of ducks out there.

If this is a new name to you, it may be better known as the knob-billed duck. It gets it's name from the distinctive rounded piece on top of the bill. This tropical species spends most of it's time in the parts of South America along with other areas like Pakistan, Madagascar, southern parts of China and a few other places.

Known for it's vegetarian eating habits, the Comb Duck spends most of it's time searching for seeds, small fish, and grain. They are drawn most often to rice farms and have been known to create several problems for farmers on a daily basis. You will find that they are one of the few duck species that enjoy perching themselves in trees to stay in shady areas.

One of the most colorful ducks you'll find on the planet, the Mandarin Duck can be found spread around the continent of Asia. However, most of these species are either farmed or placed in zoos around the world for spectator viewing. The Mandarin Duck has been known over the centuries as a Chinese symbol for fidelity and used in weddings.

You can also find the Mandarin Duck in the United Kingdom, but several debates over their species have caused issues regarding protection in the country. This is mostly due to the habitat being enriched with 1,000 pairs of male and females, but because they are not a native species there, they are left unprotected by conservationists.

Probably one of the most entertaining ducks to view, the Ruddy looks as though it has shaving cream underneath the bill. This is very distinct due to the blue bill on males along with their rustic look on the body. You will find most of the Ruddy's habitat to be spread across North America, but Great Britain and other parts of Europe have dawned the duck more frequently because of it's constant breeding abilities

This is only a few of several duck species around the world. While we shared a few of the more intriguing ones, there are many that have tropical and colorful appeal. If you would like more information on the ducks above or others like the Mallard, the Red-Crested Pochard, Muscovy Duck and several others, you can find them below. Let's have some fun!

What is the Difference Between Laptop and Netbook?

So what is the difference between laptop and netbook? A laptop (also called a notebook) is computer which has been designed to be made portable, featuring a screen hinged to a keyboard. A laptop includes a battery for portable power and a touchpad instead of a mouse for input.

Mini laptops (also called a netbook, subnotebook or ultraportables) take these ideas further still, creating a new market above handheld computers, smartphones and personal digital assistants. The primary characteristic of these are smaller size and weight, which are pretty similar to the average diary, as well as costing less than a standard laptop with prices starting at around £150, an excellent solution during the credit crunch!

Mini laptops aren't as powerful as bigger notebook computers, and lack the power for big, demanding programs as well as an optical disc drive - so no CDs or DVDs. None the less, connectivity is a central focus for netbooks. Internet downloads are quickly catching up on hard media products, so perhaps it's not such a loss.

In short, the difference between laptop and netbook is a netbook is smaller, lighter, cheaper (on the whole) and simpler.

New mini laptops are expected to sell in the region of 5.2 million units by the end of 2008, 8 million during 2009 and up to 50 million by 2012 - a ten fold growth. Industry analysts are torn whether or not subnotebooks will cannibalize the laptop market, some suggesting that a mere 10% market share will be taken. However, in this economic downturn, people will always look for cheaper products and with mini laptops available from £150-200, perhaps there is a big market after all.

So is it game over for the standard laptop and pc? Unlikely; whilst mini laptops can perform dozens of tasks to identical or similar standard of larger computers, they will (for the time being) be limited by battery size, processing power and storage space, the difference between laptop and netbook is pronounced enough not to make the former obsolete.

Furthermore, when using a computer over a prolonged period of time, it would make sense to use a bigger screen and a faster processor of a desktop replacement laptop or a PC, particularly for demanding programs' such as games.

And finally, similarly priced but laptops, of varying quality, are available for around £200-300 leading some industry analysts to believe that the consumer focus will be on functionality and not merely size and weight.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, mobile phone manufacturers and providers are tapping into the netbook market with the Samsung NC10, LG X110 and Carphone Warehouse launching the Webbook - a branded laptop made by Elonex. Vodafone has linked arms with Dell with its Inspiron Mini 9, offering 3G mobile broadband contracts. Orange have followed suit with by cosying up with Asus and the Eee PC 901.

The difference between laptops and netbooks may seem very vague, but there is certainly space for both to function. If you've got a laptop, even reading this on one, lift it up. Feel the weight of it. Ask yourself, do I need all this extra space? Would I be better off with something smaller and lighter - if the answers yes, browse around the site.
